CITY of Bradford Esprit Diving Club won three gold medals, two silvers and four bronzes, as well as setting a crop of personal best scores in the first leg of the North East Regional and Yorkshire Championships at the John Charles Aquatics Centre in Leeds.

In the 16-18 years' Girls' Group A, Dominique Hinchliffe and Gina Webb clinched a one-two in the one-metre event, while Joseph Nichol was on top of the podium in the boys' Group B 14-15 years' platform event.

Meanwhile, Koben O'Driscoll stole the show in the boys' 10-11 years' Group C winning gold by a clear margin.

Webb won silver and Emily Field bronze in the girls' Group A 16-18 years' platform, while other bronzes went to Ben Patrick in the boys' 16-18 years' platform and debutants Owen Taylor and Abbie Hindle in the boys' Group D and E 11 years and under and girls' Group D and E 11 years and under three-metre events.

Just missing out on medals in fourth place were debutant Melissa Baraclough, who finished just behind Abbie, and Holly Waxman in the women's open platform, despite only being 14.

Rosa Scally achieved a personal-best sixth in the girls' Group C 12-13 years three-metre event, while, despite being up against more experienced divers, in the final event of the competition, Holly was sixth and Evie seventh in the women's one-metre open event in personal bests.

City of Bradford Esprit took 12 divers to the championships, which was a national qualifier for later in the season and attracted strong entries from Yorkshire and the North East.

The club work alongside Bradford Council's sport and leisure service coaching and training scheme, which delivers training sessions seven days a week.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's executive member for environment, sport and culture, said: "These young people are a real asset to Bradford and I would like to pass on my congratulations to all those who took part in the competition, especially those who have qualified for the national events later in the year."
