Bradford have two more world champions.
Following on from the success of body-builder Jason Barnett last month, Gerald Pilling and John Stokes have also conquered America.
Pilling won the World Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation’s 125kg equipped division (supports allowed) in Evansville, Illinois.
Haworth Road’s Pilling had a squat of 325kg, a bench press of 232kg and a 325kg deadlift for 882½kg, and was named best overall lifter.
Stokes, from Low Moor, also a member at the University of Bradford Powerlifting Club, won the identical unequipped division, despite a stomach upset. He had a squat of 220kg, a 130kg bench press and a 200kg dead lift.
Pilling said: “I would like to thank my brother-in-law Albert Chippendale and his brothers Brian and Trevor, who raised £500; Wolfwear Sports and Fitness, Paul Jefferys from ISO2 sports supplements and the University of Bradford Powerlifting Club.”
