REBEKAH Tiler has had to switch training bases due to the flooding over the festive period.

Mytholmroyd Community Club, where the Denholme weightlifter practises, has been flooded to a depth of four feet, which has affected some of the equipment that she uses there.

Tiler's coach Eddie Halstead said: "The water came to about four feet up the wall. But we have cleaned and oiled all of the club equipment that was affected and moved it into storage.

"Also, Rebekah has a special bar that she uses at the club but that is now at my house and will be available the next time she trains. The main problem at the club now is electrical."

The floods would have been even more problematical for the Calderdale College student, who turns 17 next Wednesday, if she had not been able to find anywhere else to train.

But Halstead revealed: "We have had an open-ended invitation to train at Crossfit Boudicca at Sowerby Bridge from Richard Hornsey (owner and head coach)."

Tiler's mum Emma added: "The water affected wooden blocks, platforms and bars at Mytholmroyd but we were lucky in that Rebekah normally leaves her shoes there but had taken them home.

"The water from the River Calder came into the car park and the Community Centre overnight on Christmas Day-Boxing Day. The car park has been slightly flooded before but never the community centre.

"Normally Rebekah would be back in training between Christmas and New Year but this year she has had a few extra days off because of what has happened. Eddie is dealing with all of the insurance issues that involve the club."

This year could be Tiler's biggest yet as she looks to qualify for the Rio Olympics in the summer, having competed at the World Championships in Houston last November.

She tweeted on Monday: "Had a good training session tonight at @rickhornsey gym. Thanks Ric for letting me train there."

Mytholmroyd Community Centre is also a competition venue but the Northern Masters, due there on Saturday, February 6, and the Northern Senior Championships, due on Saturday, March 5, have been switched to other clubs.

Halstead said: "We will now be getting Rebekah prepared for the extra weights that she is going to have to lift in 2016.

"It all starts with the Exertrain English Championships at Wythenshawe Forum in Manchester on January 30-31."
