Bradford's No 1 snooker side were back in action after their triumphant UK League title win and came away from Wakefield with an excellent 5-1 victory in Division One of the Yorkshire Inter-District League.

Gareth Green made breaks of 44 and 40 in winning both his frames against Elliott Glover (84-51, 81-16) and, although Anthony Green won his first frame 75-45, Craig Longbottom made a 43 break in taking the next 65-16.

Josh Walker was in good form and took advantage of an out-of-sorts Mick Stocks, with wins of 71-22 and 73-7 giving Bradford their comprehensive success and putting them top of the table heading into a crunch tie with third-placed Castleford No 2 on Sunday at Undercliffe Cricket Club (7.15pm).

The billiards team got off to a good start against Huddersfield No 1, with Steve Wilman making a break of 30 and looking as if it would secure a rare Bradford win against Huddersfield's Yorkshire team player Matthew Peaker.

But, having played a good safety shot when needing three for victory Wilman saw Peaker's attempt to disturb the balls result in a fortunate score which enabled the visitor to make the 15 points required for a 200-197 Huddersfield win and a lead of 3-2.

Bradford captain Stephen Kershaw led from start to finish against Dave Peaker, including a best break of 39 in a 200-140 victory which edged Bradford 5-4 in front.

However, Huddersfield's Brian Cousen, now aged 83, rolled back the years with an excellent early break of 49 and never allowed Paul Devitt back into the game as he ran out a 200-88 winner giving Huddersfield No 1 the match 7-5.

Bradford's next match is at home to Huddersfield No 2 on Saturday, December 16, again at Great Horton Conservative Club (7.30pm).

The final of the Bradford Billiards Championship takes place on Monday at the same venue (7.30pm), with defending champion Trevor Kershaw taking on seven-time champion Mark Hirst.

In the 90-minute semi-finals at Undercliffe Cricket Club, Kershaw edged a tight affair with Jason Devanney, while Hirst was too strong for Paul Devitt.
