BRADFORD No 1 continued their good start to the season in the Yorkshire Inter-District Snooker League with a 5-1 success at Harrogate.

The defending Division One champions were soon into their stride, Wayne Cooper making a break of 51 in the first frame in a 60-27 win against Chris Scott, while in the second he made breaks of 51 and 41 in a 92-15 triumph to put the visitors two up.

Captain Kevin Firth also started well with a 45 break but Harrogate's Andy Blamire fought back with a 38 before Firth ran out a 65-38 winner on the colours.

Their second frame followed a similar pattern but a 37 break gave Firth a 75-33 success for a 4-0 Bradford lead.

Stuart Jauncey ensured a whitewash wasn't on the cards, playing superbly in an 88-16 victory, including a 44 break, but Bradford's Mark Slater came back strongly in the final frame, stealing it 55-47 with a clearance on the colours from brown.

The quarter-final draw for the inaugural Bradford Snooker Handicap has been made, and current Bradford champion John Wellham from Allerton Cons (-25) travels to Tong Liberal Club to take on Chris Smith (12).

Four-time Bradford champion Gareth Green from Harold Club (-47) overcame brother Anthony 3-1 in the last round and will now face Adam Tipper (5) at Undercliffe Cricket Club.

The other two ties are between 2004 Bradford champion Howard Mawson (Eccleshill Vic Cons -25), who goes to Shipley Cons to face Adam Crossan (15), while Martin Glen (Laisterdyke WMC 15) hosts Sonny Sandhu from Undercliffe Cricket (13).

The deadline for matches to be played is Sunday, November 23.

The Yorkshire Snooker Handicap has now been scheduled for the previous Sunday at Cue Gardens. The first Yorkshire tournament of the season will be pay on the day with a £10 entry fee. Further information will be provided nearer the time.
