A TEENAGE martial arts expert from Bradford has been nominated for next month's NatWest Asian Women of Achievement Awards in the sport category.
Appleton Academy A-Level student Harleen Kaur, a World Martial Kombat Federation World Championship silver medalist, will attend the glitzy bash at the Hilton on Park Lane Hotel in London on Thursday, May 12.
The youngest nominee at 17, Harleen – who is an Asian Sports Foundation ambassador – trains in karate, kick-boxing, ju-jitsu and taekwondo and is a second dan black belt.
Harleen, who has already attended the Asian Women of Achievement Awards' judging day at Canary Wharf in the capital, admitted: "I didn't expect to be nominated.
"The other nominees in my category have done so much in their lives – football agent and lawyer Bilkis Mahmood, cricket coach Saba Nasim, professional tennis player Eden Silva and company director Manisha Tailor – and then there is little me from Bradford!"
Harleen, who is studying maths, sport, psychology and sociology, is hoping to move into the field of sports science.
