BRADFORD United Martial Arts Academy said goodbye to Mihir Ashish Joshi, one of their favourite sons, after their annual taekwondo competition at Carlton Bolling Sports Centre, sponsored by Overland Developments.

The 16-year-old Thornton Grammar School student, who has just finished his GCSEs and is moving to London at the end of the month, was awarded the Stuart Howarth Trophy for services to taekwondo.

Mihir has been a member of the club for a decade after being introduced to them by his father, Ashish V Joshi, at Manningham Sports Centre.

The event attracted children from all over Bradford district and consisted of sparring and forms, with contestants competing for medals.

Mohammed Zamoord Mihir, who is a national taekwondo champion as well as being a coach, said: "At an early stage, Mihir showed a love and passion for taekwondo and he became our youngest black belt training at Manningham Sports Centre.

"He was an excellent role model for the youngsters coming through the ranks. It’s sad to see him go but it’s been a privilege teaching him, and everyone at the club would like to wish him a prosperous and bright future in London."

Mohammed's fellow coach and secondary school teacher Wahed Sabar said: “It was a great challenge to hold the event during Ramadan, with some participants and many of the parents fasting, but all the effort endured on the day paid off as the event was very successful."
