Bradford Bulldogs slipped to the foot of the table after a disappointing 7-3 loss at home to fellow strugglers Grimsby Redwings.
Things began badly for the Bulldogs when Nicholas Gennery opened the scoring for the visitors after only five minutes on the powerplay.
Worse followed a minute later as Ryan Drinkell added another powerplay goal, before Bradford pulled one back as Ryan Tomlinson marked his senior debut with a clinical finish from Daniel Berry’s set-up.
The second period saw the Bulldogs pile on the pressure and they got their reward inside the first two minutes when Aaron Dad fired home from a Stuart Smith pass to level the scores.
Despite continued pressure, the hosts found it hard to get past the impressive Redwings netminder and they found themselves behind again when Mark Turner scored another powerplay goal.
Carl Wood restored Grimsby’s two-goal advantage when he broke away and scored a shorthanded effort.
The Bulldogs pulled one back within a minute when Jordan Ashington and Steven Butler combined to set up Matt Viney, who fired into the top corner.
But with Bradford starting to tire, Turner and Drinkell put Grimsby 6-3 up by the end of the second period and Rhys Chambers then put the game well and truly out of the Bulldogs’ reach.
