LIGHTS Out Boxing Academy member Danyal Khan was the toast of Manchester after winning a boxing title in his weight category at the UK Golden Gloves Box Cup.

The youngster had not long won his first amateur bout for the Girlington-based club but he showed that he already has what it takes to perform on the national stage.

Danyal travelled to the north west for the two day competition earlier this month and fought his way into the final after two impressive wins in the ring.

Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances meant that the deciding bout, and the whole of the second day of competition, was cancelled.

However, organisers were keen to reward Danyal for his powerful performances and it was decided that he would be awarded the title by default. He received a certificate to commemorate his achievements.

The youngster's victories at the event mean that he now has a 4-0 record in the ring. He will next be in action when Lights Out hosts its first ever show on May 12, an event where around 2,000 spectators are expected to attend the 15 bouts on offer.

Danyal is not the only young boxer who has flourished under the tutelage of the Girlington academy. On April 20, two of the club's youngsters travelled to North Wales to take part in a pair of tough bouts.

Zain Zaman and Ahmad Raza both emerged triumphant from their respective contests as the club's heartwarming success story continues to go from strength to strength.
