UNBEATEN Bradford welterweight prospect Darren Tetley has his sights firmly on the British title after signing a three-year promotional contract with Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions outfit.

The 23-year-old former amateur star's first official outing under his new team will be at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on May 13 – on a show that will be broadcast live by BT Sport and boxing pay-per-view channel BoxNation.

Tetley said: "I'm really happy with the promotional deal and I can't wait to get in the ring and fight in front of the television cameras. The long-term aim is to be challenging for the British title within 18 months."

Bradford City fan Tetley's opponent will be Luke Keleher of Halifax and he is not taking him lightly.

"Luke is a tough kid and I won't be looking past him," said Tetley. "I still have lots of learning to do but my long-term aim is to win the British title, defend it and go from there."

A scaffolder by trade, Tetley is now hoping to secure further sponsorship so that he can focus on reaching his potential in the ring.

"I am now on the look-out for some more sponsors so that I can work less and spend more time in the gym with (trainer) Mick Marsden," said the 13-0 prospect.

"I already have two fantastic sponsors in Tan-Tastique and Direct Building Products but I could do with a few more really."

Tetley's amateur record makes for impressive reading. The 5ft 11in southpaw pocketed two national titles in 2010 but 2011 was by far his best year in the unpaid ranks as he collected another national title, won a three-nations title and also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Tetley, originally from Holme Wood but now based in Buttershaw with his wife Lauran and 15-month-old son Henry-Lee, has credited Marsden for his progress in the paid-for ranks.

"Mick has done so much for me, both inside and outside the ring, and I owe him so much – I can't imagine having anybody else in my corner," he said.

Double Olympic champion Nicola Adams heads the show with her second professional bout, while Leeds featherweight Josh Warrington also fights Kiko Martinez for the WBC international belt.
