DARREN Tetley is ready to call time on fighting "Polish taxi drivers" and make the next step in his unbeaten boxing career.

The 12-0 welterweight from Holme Wood is in action again on the Stefy Bull promotion at Doncaster Dome this Saturday – but that is just a warm-up for his first title shot in the New Year.

Tetley has been nominated to fight the experienced John O'Donnell for the vacant English belt by March.

It is the breakthrough opportunity he has been building towards and the Bradford fighter is happy to be cast as underdog.

"People have been asking me when I was getting a big fight and it's been starting to do my head in," said Tetley.

"I was in line to fight Shayne Singleton, the WBC international champion, but they knocked it back because he's a mandatory for the British.

"Nobody wants that big fight more than me. I've been putting my heart and soul into training just waiting for the chance.

"Now I've got that against a former Commonwealth champion who is 31-2. For me to get that extra kick I need the fear factor. It's what I thrive off.

"Every fight's hard and one punch can change everything whatever the opponent – but I'm fed up with fighting Polish taxi drivers.

"I'm not looking past this next fight but I aim to put in a good performance and then get ready to step up."

Purse bids to stage the English title clash close on December 14 but Tetley is not concerned if he has to travel to O'Donnell's backyard in London for the ten-rounder.

He said: "That won't bother me. I've boxed all over as an amateur and he can sell 1,000 tickets – they aren't there with him in the ring.

"Some people on Twitter have been saying the title fight is too soon for me. But that's what I love to hear.

"I want to get them talking. Nobody is bothered about Rolf Wirovsky from Poland, who's won one and lost about 500 – beating him proves nothing.

"But when my trainer asks me to do some extra sprints, if fighting someone with a record of 31-2 doesn't fire you up then you're in the wrong sport."

Tickets for Saturday are still available on 07564 210960.
