AMIN Jahanzeb defied a suspected broken wrist to win a national title at the England Boxing Development Championship.

Jahanzeb, from the Karmand amateur club in Barkerend, earned the under-20 novice bantamweight title with a unanimous victory.

The 56kg boxer went through the pain barrier to produce a slick performance against Gunner Bradshaw (Army) and wow the judges at Grantham Leisure Centre.

Coach Dave Cariss said: "He had a bad hand a few weeks before he went into the championships and then came back after the first round saying he thought he'd broken his wrist.

"You can't carry it but he's a very confident lad and didn't show he was having any problems.

"It's unbelievable how well he's done. Amin came to us from another club two years ago and wasn't throwing a jab.

"So we've had to teach him so he can fight inside a little bit and he's got a lot better.

"It was the first time we've put him in for the nationals but he boxed really well. His brother Eisa helps me and is a fantastic pads man, so it's a real family effort."

Cariss felt the Bradford club should have left Nottinghamshire with a second title after Fezian Shahid narrowly missed out in the flyweight category.

He was beaten on a split decision by Plamedy 'baby-faced assassin' Mianteolo from London-based IQ Boxing Academy.

Cariss admitted: "Fezian was very unlucky and we thought he'd won it. There were some good decisions in the juniors but not so great in some of the senior finals."
