BOXERS from Bradford College have bagged two medals for England from the Great Britain Elite Three Nations tournament.

Twenty-year-old Cory O’Regan struck gold in the 60kg final against hosts Scotland and Wales in Dunfermline.

And 18-year-old student Jade Ashmore came away with a silver medal from the 51kg female category.

The pair, who are coached by former pro Mally McIver at the college’s Trinity Green campus, are now eyeing Great Britain call-ups. They have been invited to assessment camps later this month.

They earned their invitations to the GB trials after impressing in the national championships in Liverpool last month when they both finished runners up in their divisions.

Bradford Police and College Boxing Academy could soon have more reason to celebrate.

Harris Akbar has flown to Anapa in Russia as part of England’s squad for the EUBC European Youth Championships.

Bradford-based Akbar claimed the only winner’s medal for England in last year’s Commonwealth Youth Games.

Earlier this year he scooped the Young Male Sportsperson prize at the inaugural Bradford Sports Awards.
