Wood you believe it of Shirley
Shirley Wood ran an impressive race to win her category for Airienteers at a regional event in the Lake District.
The Lakeland Club-organised competition, held at Bigland near Ulverston, counts towards national rankings and Wood (Addingham) did her cause no harm by heading the W50 race.
Other notable results for Airienteers included Sarah Haines (Ilkley), a W45 runner who entered the 7km W21 race and finished second.
Husband Peter Haines was also runner-up in the M50 class, while Martyn Gill (Skipton) continued his recent good form with fifth in the 6.2m M55 race.
Natasha Conway of Leeds was third in the 6.2km W35 race, as was Hilary Allen at W60.
Junior runners Sam Woo, Robert Kelly, Ben Gill and Becky Bailey all finished in the top ten of their age-group races.
The first of Airienteers' planned Wednesday evening informal events is staged this evening (6.30) at Meanwood Valley, Leeds.
Next week the club are at a Bank Holiday two-day event, which includes a national race at Cawthorne near Pickering in the North Yorkshire Moors.
Details are on the club's website at www.aire.org.uk.
