BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC: Our trip to Rhyl on Saturday was a great success. The weather was kind too us, having calm seas, with many species being caught. Included in the catches were many bull huss, one of which weighed 7lb caught by Bernard Till. Many more were lost bringing them to the boat. One tope was boated weighing 11lb, landed by Mick Best, but a bigger one was lost at the net and was estimated by the skipper to be 25lb. Many whiting and red gurnard were also caught, along with mackerel which we used for bait. A tub gurnard was also landed by Jon Gregg, one of our new members, weighing 4lb. With another landed by David Taylor at 3lb 8oz, all in all it was a very good trip. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, July 21 (8pm) at Girlington Conservative Club, next to the fire station on Thornton Road. Members should try to attend this meeting as we would like to plan trips for next year. New members are always welcome.

WASHBURN VALLEY: The heaviest fish caught this week was a 4lb 6oz rainbow trout by Paul Breakwell using viva. Fewston and Swinsty: Hot sticky weather has sent fish into deep water. Even newly-stocked Swinsty has struggled to produce a decent return. Let’s hope there is fresher weather to come. Thruscross: Brownies are rising to take sedge as they land on the water’s surface. It’s a bit cooler up here, so the fish can be seen feeding in the early morning. Catch details for week ending July 5 – Day ticket: Fewston 19, Swinsty 8, Thruscross (catch and return) 2; total fish caught: Fewston 38, Swinsty 18, Thruscross 5; average per rod: Fewston 2.0, Swinsty 2.25, Thruscross 2.5.
