MARK Regan (Brighouse Sports) and Danny Sillitoe (Ossett Flying Horse) met in the latter stages of the Spen Winter Sweep for a second successive week.

Regan, runner-up in week eight, won their semi-final 21-13 on that occasion and the pair met again in the final of week nine. Regan was again triumphant, this time 21-9.

Losing semi-finalists were Mally Fowler (21-11 to Regan) and Stuart King (21-20 to Sillitoe).

On a milder day, the top green was again out of action, this time due to surface water, and week six winner Fowler found his semi-final a match too far.

Regan, who had earlier come through two tight squeezes 21-20, led 11-2 after ten ends as his opponent went off the boil.

Although Fowler won two of the next three ends, Regan then embarked on a run of seven points, including three pairs, to surge 19-5 in front.

Fowler responded with four winning ends, including two doubles, but Regan then got the two he needed to reach the decider.

The other semi-final was more topsy-turvy, with Asa Briggs player King trailing 8-0 before leading 10-9, with that run including a pair of fours.

Sillitoe then won seven of the next nine ends to go 18-12 in front, with King levelling at 18-18 in a game that would have been fit for a final before Sillitoe edged it 21-20 from 20-20.

The final also looked like being a Christmas cracker, with Regan going 6-1 ahead before being pegged back to 9-7. Yet from 11-8, Regan earned the next six points on the way to victory.
