BRADFORD No 1 continued their excellent form with a 5-1 victory over Castleford No 2 at Undercliffe Cricket Club in Division One of the Yorkshire Inter-District Snooker League.

Gareth Green made breaks of 39 and 44 to take the first frame 83-15 against Bradley Burrows, and then bettered that with a 77 in frame two for a 93-7 success and a 2-0 lead.

Anthony Green, brother of Gareth, made a break of 38 in his first frame to take it 58-21, but missed a few vital shots in his second frame and opponent Pete Raby took advantage to pull a frame back 71-39.

Josh Walker once again scored heavily, and a break of 40 helped him to a 105-16 frame win, and he backed this up with a 59-2 scoreline in the last.

The victory leaves Bradford with a two-point lead over Sheffield No 2 at the top of the table, with Bradford returning to action on Sunday, January 7 with a trip to Sheffield No 1.

Bradford's billiards side are in action on Saturday at Great Horton Conservative Club where they take on Huddersfield No 2 (7.30pm). Spectators are welcome.

The next rounds of the Bradford Snooker Championships were drawn at Undercliffe before the Bradford match, and holder Mark Ball faces Jason Murgatroyd, while four-time champion Gareth Green takes on Dave Tolson.

One of the matches of the round is Stefan Risidi taking on 2004 champion Howard Mawson. Risidi holds the highest break of the competition to date with a 75 in the last round, and his game against Mawson promises to be mouth-watering.

Another match to whet the appetite is Mark Slater against Anthony Green, both being Bradford team-mates in their recent UK League title win.

Other last-16 matches are: Chris Hegarty v Paul Davey, Adam Tipper v Damien Bentley, Lewis Walsh v Chris Tolson, Josh Walker v Peter Hamilton

Pairs quarter-final draws: G&A Green (holders) v C Hegarty & A Holroyd, K Firth & W Cooper v T Devanney & R Atkinson, M Sharp & R Duffield v L Walsh & H Mawson, M Slater & J Murgatroyd v S Risidi & P Hamilton. All the above ties to be played by January 31.

Mark Hirst lifted the Bradford billiards title for an eighth time with a narrow victory over last season's winner Trevor Kershaw at Great Horton Conservative Club.
