DEFENDING champions Embassy Police A had their long unbeaten Bradford League Division One record broken by the most unlikely opposition.

Embassy Police B were the culprits, and following the evidence from this match, Police A are clearly not as strong as in previous sesaons.

Their squad is minus James Hobson, Stephen Horsfield, Shahriar Masoudi and Shayan Siraj, leaving Tim Dyson and John Chew to spearhead their title defence.

Pete Clarkson and Rod Robertson are the other two members of this season's squad, but they are looking vulnerable already.

Chew was missing against Police B and, although Dyson was untroubled in winning his three singles, that was as good as it got for the champions as the Police B trio of Ian Marshall, Jacek Dabrowski and Paul Stephenson did them no favours by winning two each for an unlikely 6-4 victory.

In Division Two, Highdale B are the early front-runners, following their victory over previously unbeaten Hermits B.

Gary Foster led the way for Highdale with three wins, and James Foster and Phil Mann both won two, while Andy Braithwaite and Greg Hill took one each for Hermits B.

In Division Three, Hermits G made it three wins out of three but were given a tough test by Baildon C.

The home trio of Kath Manogue, Tim Moran and Joe Jonas all won two to secure victory, with Shirley Toulmin winning two and Jerry Harkaway one for Baildon.
