* BRADFORD were beaten by Sheffield ICT in a competitive Yorkshire Parks Inter-City final, which took place in Leeds and district.

The final was at Magnets, Queens Gardens, Tadcaster and Sheffield carded three of the first four winners in taking a 12-point lead.

The middle four games could have gone either way but Sheffield led 5-3 after eight jacks and had a ten-point advantage.

Bradford knew that two good winners at the end would make them champions and when Paul Rooks won 21-12 it was game on. But Andy Mailer held his nerve for Sheffield to defeat Stuart King 21-18 and seal their 8-4 victory.

The latter side held a one-point advantage going into it and knew that a draw would be enough to put them in the final – but Sheffield won 7-5 to take the section by a point.

Group B was much tougher to call but Bradford had the advantage after an opening 9-3 win over Heavy Woollen, while Aire-Wharfe only edged home 7-5 against Hebden Royd.

Bradford then defeated Aire-Wharfe 8-4 to take a six-point lead into their last game against Hebden Royd, who had just drawn 6-6 with Heavy Woollen.

However, Bradford struggled in their last match and could only draw it 6-6 but it was still good enough to win the section by two points, despite Aire-Wharfe beating Heavy Woollen 10-2.
