PUDSEY A were convincing winners over holders Crossgates at Ossett Flying Horse in the qualifying round of the West Riding Cup in what was a repeat of last year's final.

After four jacks, Pudsey held a five-point advantage thanks to a great 21-7 success by James Hanson, although Gaz Lally replied with a 21-12.

The match slipped away from Crossgates in the middle four jacks, with Pudsey taking them all, Gary Wike's 21-8 being the pick as Pudsey extended their lead to 30 chalks.

Ira Jeffers was the only other winner for Crossgates with a 21-11 effort as Pudsey eased through to the next round by 38 points, although Crossgates are now firm favourites to win the Pilling Cup.

Meanwhile, Harold Club shocked Eccleshill with an 11-point victory at Shipley Club.

The clubmen carded the first four winners, with Mally Fowler's 21-12 the stand-out, and they led by 22 points after four jacks.

Neil Tordoff produced a great 21-8 as Harold Club extended their lead to 27 points after eight jacks, despite an excellent 21-14 by Andrew Howie.

Eccleshill hit back at the end, with Richard Stockdale 21-5, Paul Rooks 21-14 and James Teale 21-19 giving them hope, but when Paul Garside won 21-12, the match was over.

Littlemoor found it tough going at Lower Hopton against Ossett Flying Horse, losing by 48 chalks.

Ossett made the ideal start, with James Evison's 21-8 the pick, and they led by 29 chalks after four jacks.

That was extended to 33 with two winners each in the middle four, with John Armitage's 21-12 cancelling out Joe Westell's 21-11 for Ossett.

Three more winners at the end gave Ossett a comfortable victory, despite a great 21-12 from Littlemoor's Nigel Roper in game 12.
