BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA ANGLERS

The Christmas meeting was well attended with many aspects of angling being discussed, with trips being top of the agenda. No definite dates have been filled in yet but it was thought that we should fish Hartlepool in April and possibly May, Rhyl in June and July, North Shields in August and Scarborough in September. Dates will be booked in readiness for the next general meeting on Tuesday, January 17 at the New Inn, East Bierley, 8pm. Last year’s trophy winners should return them at this meeting.

Night permits for Knotford and Kirklees will also be on sale for 2016 permit holders from the ticket and licence secretary Simon Freer, before going on general sale on Wednesday, February 1. There is a slight increase in night-permit costs to cover the ongoing improvement works at both venues. For more information, please contact Simon Freer on 07714-662783.

This winter’s restocking programme began last week with the stocking of 300 barbel and 500 chub into the River Nidd at Cowthorpe and the River Calder near Brighouse. All of the fish are eight to ten inches long and bred specifically for rivers. Anglers are asked to take extra care when handling these fish. It is hoped that further restocking of our still waters will take place later this winter. The River Swale at Topcliffe is producing large nets of roach up to 1lb on stick float and maggot, while anglers fishing on either pond at Shelf Dam have also reported good catches of roach up to 10oz on bread punch.

LISTERHILLS AA

The present membership book runs out on December 31 and must be renewed before going fishing in 2017. We are at present attempting to renegotiate the lease at Pilley’s. This fishery is not free fishing and the owners have informed us that anyone caught there will be classed as trespassers. They may be prosecuted and have their tackle confiscated. Result of the members’ match at Apperley Bridge: 1 E Harrison with 2lb 14½oz (small roach with two bonus fish of 12oz each), 2 B Johnson 1lb 6oz (he was unfortunate – just as he got the small fish feeding he hooked a pike which he played for a long time before it bit through and the fish had scattered and did not return). Members requiring Leeds Amalgamation membership books can send the application form inside our membership book to Leeds Anglers’ Club with a stamp-addressed envelope and the correct sum via a cheque. SKIPTON AA

There was no fairy-tale end to the Skipton Winter League’s season last Sunday when they fished the Christmas Cheer match on the Marina length of the canal at Barnoldswick. Conditions were quite reasonable, apart from remaining a little chilly, but the bream failed to show, and several anglers even failed to weigh-in at the end of the three-hour duration. The winner was veteran Skipton angler Bob Fenn, who caught two decent bream in the match for 2300g (5:1:0).
