EMBASSY-Police B and Hermits B are both likely to finish in the bottom four of a strong Division One but showed their battling qualities as they went head to head in a topsy-turvy Bradford League contest.
Police looked to be cruising to victory when, after losing the opening set, they reeled off five sets in a row as Jak Dabrowski and Tony Boyd won twice each and Paul Stephenson added a single.
Hermits then embarked on a comeback as Fazal Hussain, Greg Hill and Kevin Pickles took the last three singles to give themselves a chance of a draw.
Yet Dabrowski and Boyd had other ideas as they won the doubles in four games to seal a narrow 6-4 victory.
There was another Hermits comeback in Division Two as the E team took on Highdale B and this time it finished level.
Hermits took the opening singles through Richard Aitken but then found themselves 5-2 down as James Foster claimed a treble and George Bak and Mick Kosmowsky both won once.
The E team had better fortune as Peter Eccles and Aitken won the last two singles and then salvaged a draw with a 3-2 doubles success over Foster and Bak.
Division Four action saw Baildon B record a second victory against clubmates Baildon C – but it was touch and go as the C team led 3-2 and 4-3.
Jerry Harkawy won twice and John Jennison and Shirley Toulmin both overcame Richard Stanley.
But Baildon B had the match-winner as Steve Crossland dropped only one game in winning his three singles. John Atkinson added a brace and together they clinched a 6-4 victory by taking the doubles.
