PUDSEY A got their Bradford League season off to a great start following a highly competitive Division Two encounter at Hermits D.

Richard Abrahams and Zoe Cheeseman took the opening two sets for Pudsey before Richard Aitken and Ian Warner got to work for Hermits, winning twice each as the home side went 4-3 ahead.

Aitken was then looking to complete his treble against Abrahams but it was Pudsey who finished as they started, with Abrahams stopping Aitken in four games followed by Cheeseman taking the final singles against Paul Mckrieth.

The Pudsey duo then won the doubles 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 for a 6-4 overall success.

In Division Three, Rastrick were also on the victory trail but they also had to come from behind to win by the same margin at Hermits I.

The hosts led 4-2 as Kath Manogue took two, with Tim Moran and Michael Butler adding one each – but Rastrick had the match-winner as the reliable Mick Whitham won his three singles.

Brian Banks and new signing Colin Priestley both won their final singles as Rastrick led 5-4 and, in a tense deciding doubles, Whitham and Banks edged past Manogue and Moran 12-10 in the fifth.

Highdale A took the points at Hermits A in Division One with Yonni Caspi, from Dewsbury Sedbergh, having a dream debut. Caspi and Peter Morgan were both unbeaten as Highdale were 7-3 winners.
