SKIPTON AA

Craven Summer League competitors fished the final match of this summer's series of eight matches on the Broughton Road length of the canal at Skipton. Conditions would have been reasonable had it not been for the strong and blustery wind which blew with the current and made fishing difficult for most of the anglers. Even so, weights were about normal but comprised mainly small roach, perch and skimmers, although one or two roach were of a decent size and a single perch weighed in at 590g.

Danny Bolland recorded an easy win with 1280g, with Jason Aldis (980g) second. Others: 3 Kenny Wright 860g, 4 Ernie Ramsbotham 590g, 5= Andrew Thomas and Rob Thornton 370g. The final league placings were decided on the best six results out of the possible maximum of eight. The first three anglers had all fished only six matches but their results proved to be sufficient, although pre-match league leader Russell Heaton dropped to third. Final placings: 1 Jason Aldis 127pts, 2 Danny Bolland 124, 3 Russell Heaton 120, 4 Kenny Wright 116, 5 Andrew Thomas 112, 6 Rob Thornton 107, 7= Keith Brown and Mark Bradley 104, 9 Graeme Waterfall 103, 10= Simon Chenior and Ernie Ramsbotham 102.

Match anglers will now have to wait just over a month before the Skipton Winter League commences on September 18 at Swine Lane, Riddlesden. Full details from league secretary Bill Davenport on 01756-799671 or 07581-082576. The third club members only match takes place this Sunday on Whinnygill Reservoir, with the draw at 8.15am and fishing from 9am until noon.

Following the outbreak of KHV at a local water, anglers should dry all nets and weigh-slings thoroughly in direct sunlight to stop its spread. The KHV virus only kills carp but other species of coarse fish can be carriers. The draw for Sunday's annual Leeds-Liverpool Canal Open Championship is at the bridge on the Rodley Crane Works length. This location has produced some excellent weight recently for both match and pleasure anglers. The following week there is a match at Nun Monkton on the River Ouse. Several of our members took part in the Leeds Amalgamation veterans match on Osprey Lake and our top weight was take by E Harrison. The trips to the River Ouse have proved popular and some good catches have been recorded, with various species of fish coming to the net.
