BRADFORD snooker stages its own Clash of the Titans tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Holder and nine-time champion Wayne Cooper (Undercliffe Cricket Club) faces four-time winner Gareth Green (Eccleshill Victoria Cons) in what should be a mouth-watering final of the Bradford Snooker Championships at Great Horton Conservative Club (7.45pm) between two players who have dominated the last two decades.

Cooper started the tournament with a classic first-round tie against Bradford team-mate Kevin Firth.

The latter made breaks of 64 and 72, while Cooper contributed efforts of 52, 67 and 114 during his 4-2 victory.

In the second round, Cooper beat Mark Ball 4-0 and followed this up with a 4-1 defeat of Bradford No 2 captain Hanif Rafiq.

Cooper's semi-final was a repeat of last year's final with Mark Slater, with the same outcome – a 4-1 victory for Cooper.

Green has also been in excellent form throughout the competition and started with a first-round win against Joe Hollins, backed up by another 4-0 success in round two over Dean Parker.

In his quarter-final, Green was outstanding against Bradford team player Lewis Walsh, despite losing his first two frames.

After that, there was no stopping Green, who compiled impressive breaks of 41, 45, 51, 97 and the highest break of the competition – a 132 – on his way to a 4-2 triumph.

In the semi-finals, Green faced his brother Anthony Green, who was solid throughout, Gareth showing nerves of steel when it mattered to win 4-2.

Green won the Bradford title four times on the trot between 2010 and 2013, while Cooper has won the title in 1997, 1998, 2000-2002, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2015, his only defeat in the final coming at the hands of Green in 2011, who will be looking to stamp his own legacy over the coming years.

He is already Bradford Snooker Handicap champion and won the Bradford Snooker Pairs Championship last season with his brother.
