BRADFORD No 1 AA

Sunday's warm and bright conditions meant for difficult fishing in the officials' match at Queen Mary's Ponds. Result: 1 Simon Foster 5lb 14oz (one tench), 2 Nick Freer 4lb 12oz (one tench), 3 Andy Fox 3lb 9oz. Raskelf Lake will be closed on Sunday for the veterans' match, draw 9.30am. Tickets for the members' match on the River Nidd at Cowthorpe on Sunday, June 19 are available from Simon on 01274-571175.

The coarse season on rivers starts next Thursday, meaning that all waters will be open with no bait bans in place. The River Calder at Lillands, River Nidd at Cowthorpe or Nun Monkton and the River Swale at Thornton Bridge are all worth visiting early in the season.

Anglers have been witnessed by members transferring fish between club waters. Anybody caught moving fish without prior written permission from the club will be brought in front of the committee to face a life ban and will be reported to the police. If anybody has any information regarding the theft of sleepers at Shelf Dam, they are asked to contact the committee. Anybody caught vandalising or stealing club property will also be reported to the police.

Volunteers are needed for a working party at Knotford on Saturday, June 18 to improve the road and path around the lake. There will be no fishing on the lake that morning as Beneath British Waters are filming underwater footage.

SKIPTON AA

The recent spell of excellent weather appears to have worked wonders for angling. Whinnygill Reservoir at Skipton has seen the level fall by about a metre recently due to work being carried out to find and repair a leak. Sport has been unaffected and, coupled with higher temperatures, some good fish have been landed, including new species.

Skimmers have been plentiful, together with perch, roach, a few ide and the odd carp. New species (tench and rudd) both fell to Michael Ickringill. The tench weighed 625g and has not been stocked officially. The rudd's weight was not recorded and is also an unofficial stocking.

Embsay Reservoir has also benefited from the warmer conditions and some good trout have been landed, together with perch to over 450g (1:0:0). Tiger, rainbow, blue and brown trout have all provided excellent sport to worm and fly.

The dry weather has made its mark on the level of the River Aire, which is now down to near-summer conditions. Brown trout have become harder to catch, although grayling are now turning up more frequently, especially on the fly. Trout have been up to 1360g.

Results from the last Craven Summer League match on the canal at Barnoldswick's Long Ing Length (patchy fishing with one decent weight): 1 Martin Magner 2100g, 2 Jason Aldis 1060g, 3 890g, 4 Richard Thornton 740g, 5 Richard Tordoff 650g, 6 Andrew Thomas 530g. Leading series standings (after three matches): 1 Danny Bolland 60pts, 2 Graeme Waterfall 55, 3 Russell Heaton 51, 4 Richard Thornton 48, 5 Jason Aldis 47, 6 Martin Magner 46. One competitor lost an eel estimated to weigh over 1360g.

The club will be holding their first members' match this Sunday at Whinnygill Reservoir, registration and draw from 8am, fishing 9am-noon.

SALTAIRE AA

Can all members note that, due to circumstances beyond our control, we do not have the fishing rights on the River Calder at Earlsheaton. Do not fish this water as you will be asked to leave. Daily checks are in operation. The committee apologise for this and are actively looking for new waters. We have started to tackle the weed problem at Tong Park and would ask all members to bear with us. Any member who would be available for a working party in the near future should make contact via the saltaire e-mail address.
