CHRIS Mordue was almost joined by his son Josh in tomorrow night's Shipley Classic finals.

Mordue senior made it through for the first time, with wins over Chloe Hirst (Clayton) 21-9, Kevin Burns (Ossett Flying Horse) 21-14 and 2014 champion Mark Hughes (Crossgates) 21-13 on the last qualifying night.

Josh, also of Pudsey, led 2015 runner-up James Wilcox (Crossgates) in his final qualifying round, only for the latter to have a break of six and qualify 21-19.

Wilcox also came through a tough opening game against Brian Lee (Alverthorpe) 21-18 before a 21-5 second-round win over Graham Law (Lloyds BC).

The finals, sponsored by H H Birch & Son and RSK Fastenings, start at 6.30pm tomorrow evening, with a quality field looking to take the £500 first prize. Stuart King (Asa Briggs), who was champion in 2013, is the only former winner in the field.
