LOCAL pool players and top internationals are battling it out at the Bradford Hotel this weekend as the city hosts the JLEC English Open.

The second leg of the IPA (International Professional Pool Association) Tour incorporates three tournaments over three days – one for amateurs, one for professionals, and the Open for both, when high class league and county players get to test their abilities against the game's elite.

Over 20 pool tables in one room will provide intense competition in the eight-ball competitions.

Marc Farnsworth is the favourite for the Open and pro events, while the amateurs are headed by Scott Gillespie, though such is the competition that it will be difficult to call.

The action starts today.
