NEIL Tordoff and Trevor Benn are the new Bradford Pairs Merit champions.

The Wyke duo beat David Scott and Andrew Tate of Clayton 21-18 in the final of the Martin S Lonsdale (Estate Agents)-sponsored competition at Cleckheaton Sports.

The weather was superb as 35 pairs looked to clinch the title but Tordoff and Benn emerged victorious as they became the first Wyke pair to do so since 1987, when Trevor's dad Robert and Bob Wilkinson lifted the trophy.

* CROSSGATES made it four Bradford Saturday League wins from four as they beat visiting Brighouse Sports A 22-8 in the Naylor Premier top division thanks to a great 21-9 effort from the evergreen Nigel Cranston.

Ladyhill A carded their first victory of the season with a 17-13 home success over Shipley Club A, with Neil Simpson's 21-5 the pick of their six winners. Daniel Metcalfe kept the aggregate close with a great 21-6 away success for Shipley.

Wyke A are still searching for their first win as they went down to an 18-12 home defeat against Whitkirk, while Asa Briggs A defeated Clayton 20-10 helped by seven home winners.

Pudsey A carded an impressive 25-5 verdict over Eccleshill A, with Thomas Hanson 21-6, Stuart Hanson 21-9 and Josh Mordue 21-9 all on top form.

* YORKSHIRE start their British Parks Senior County Championship campaign against Cheshire on Sunday, with the home match at Spen Victoria and the away leg at the Navigation Hotel in Stockport.

Both fixtures get underway at 2pm and Yorkshire will be eager to make a winning start as they look to retain the title.
