THE two Hermits teams in Division 2B of the Bradford League clashed in a title decider, and it was a case of what might have been for Hermits G.

The H team were favourites before the start, having a five-point lead, so a victory was essential for the G team, but they let golden opportunities go begging in the early stages.

Azim Afzal was 2-1 up against Les Packer in the opening set but was pipped 12-10 in the fifth game, and he also led 2-0 against Martin Jackson in set four before going down 14-12 in the decider.

Mukhtar Khan led 2-0 against Terry Halliday in set three before losing the next three games, so what might have been a 3-1 lead turned into a 4-0 deficit, and their chance had gone.

The H team trio of Packer, Jackson and Halliday then swept the remaining sets for a cruel 10-0 scoreline, but they are worthy champions.

Hermits J made sure of the runners-up spot in Division 3A, following victory in their final fixture against Baildon C.

Jerry Harkawy and David Rudley put Baildon 2-0 up but from then it was all Hermits as Joe Jonas took three singles, with Tim Moran and Steve Morris adding two each for a 7-3 success.

The Tony Theobould Trophy final will be an all-Baildon affair as Division 3A champions Baildon A meet Baildon C, also from Division Three, at Hermits on Wednesday, April 20.

The Burton Cup final on the same evening is between Dewsbury Tog and the winners of Embassy Police A

and Hermits A.
