THE Naylor Premier League got underway last Saturday, and there were some stunning performances.

Clayton A carded a full house of winners in a 29-1 demolition of Whitkirk, with Darren Clare 21-3, Paul Gill 21-4 and Chris Wilson 21-7 being the pick of them.

Some would have thought that was the result of the day, but it was reigning champions Pudsey A who put a marker down with an unbelievable 27-3 win at Ladyhill A, carding all ten winners, with Josh Mordue's 21-5 the stand-out performance from a stand-out team.

Gareth Lally's 21-8 helped Crossgates to a 23-7 home win over Asa Briggs A, who may have been disappointed to leave with so few points.

Newly-promoted Wyke A started with a tricky match at Brighouse Sports A, and would have been relatively pleased with ten points, helped by a great 21-8 win from Paul Garside. Richard Hobson replied with a 21-8 winning card for the hosts – the pick of seven home winners.

Eccleshill A, who avoided relegation in their final game of last season, started this season off with an 18-12 win over Shipley Club A, helped by Neil Mylan's 21-7 as both teams carded five winners.

Cononley look like favourites for promotion from the Godwin League as they started with a 29-1 home win over Clayton B, winning the aggregate by an impressive 116 points.

There were eight single-figure winners for the hosts, Philip Dowgill 21-5, Graham Raey 21-6, Jim Calvert 21-7, Tony Finn 21-7, Alister Keighley 21-7, Rob Scarr 21-7 John Parkin 21-8 and Steve Wood 21-8 ensuring a great start to the season for Cononley.

Pudsey B also look strong this year after numerous winter acquisitions, and they demolished Elland CA&BC 27-3, carding eight home winners, with Andy Hodgson 21-4, Jon Edmondson 21-5, Tom Lawrence 21-8 and Darren Crawley 21-9 being the pick.

Newcomers Akroydon Victoria A shocked Guiseley A 26-4, helped by Julian Dawson 21-4, Dale Holdsworth 21-8 and Les Holmes 21-8.

Meanwhile, Daniel Teale 21-3 and Andy Newell 21-9 were both on top form as Rufford A started with a 23-7 success over Eccleshill B, while Littlemoor S&SC A defeated Brighouse Sports B by the same score, with Steven Bowes 21-3 and Craig Hebbard 21-6 starring for Littlemoor.

Wyke B made it two wins out of two after a 27-3 win over Littlemoor S&SC B in the Observer League, with Michael Walton 21-4, Wally Whytell 21-5, Glenn Molineux 21-5 and Robert Benn 21-8 all starring.

Another team who remain unbeaten are Shipley Club B, who scored a less-than-convincing 18-12 home win over Hipperholme & Lightcliffe B, who shared five winners apiece, Kevin Arundale 21-2 and Kevin Wood 21-6 ensuring the aggregate went the way of the hosts.

Carl Goodall rolled back the years with a great 21-6 for Greengates A at Drighlington, but it was the hosts, with six winners, who took the match 17-13.

Clive Foord's 21-5 success for Asa Briggs B was cancelled out by John Stocks' 21-8 for Peel, but it was Asa who edged it 17-13.

Hightown, who are still looking for their first victory of the season, went down 16-14 at home to Hove Edge A, despite a great 21-9 from Shaun Carter, with John Butterworth's 21-7 helping Hove Edge take the aggregate.

Horsforth Woodside A and Ladyhill B battled it out for a 15-15 draw, with Stephen Bottomley 21-7 and Kevin Waller 21-9 ensuring the hosts took the aggregate with only four winners.
