BRADFORD No 1 secured a 5-1 victory at Huddersfield to stay top of Division One of the Yorkshire Inter-District Snooker League with only two matches remaining.

Wayne Cooper opened with a 74-31 victory for the visitors, but Yorkshire handicap champion Rob Armitage pulled a frame back, making a break of 33 in a 56-48 win.

Kevin Firth edged his first frame 69-22 against James Moss, and followed up with a 78-7 success, which included a break of 54.

Huddersfield's Jack Ellis Pownell made a break of 37 early in his frame, but Lewis Walsh won 66-39, completing the fine result with a final-frame 52-22 victory.

In Division Two, Bradford No 2 look good for promotion after a fine 4-2 success over Leeds No 2.

Gareth Green was in good form, making breaks of 63 and 61 during his two-frame victory and, although Peter Hamilton could do little against an in-form Stephen Broadhead, Hanif Rafiq picked off the last two frames to guarantee that Bradford remained top.

Walsh is in action on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the Yorkshire Championships at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, alongside fellow Bradfordian Daniel Farmer.

They are joined by Jonathon Bagley and Tommy Doherty of Leeds, Martin Finnigan from Sheffield, Chris Hall from Wakefield, Declan Bristow from Harrogate and Mikey Tomlinson from Castleford.

The draw will be made on the day, and both quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place, with the final to be played at next month's presentation night.

In the Bradford Championships, holder Cooper, looking to win his tenth title, is through to the semi-finals after a 4-1 victory against Rafiq, while last season's runner-up Mark Slater progressed to the last four by the same scoreline against Darren Goy.

Four-time champion Gareth Green was in impressive form, beating Walsh 4-2, including breaks of 41, 45, 51, 97 and a competition high 132.

Green's brother Anthony makes up the semi-final line-up following a 4-3 victory against Josh Walker.

This season's Bradford Billiards Championship final will be between 2002 winner Paul Devitt and 2008 champion Trevor Kershaw after both came through the round-robin group matches.

The final date has yet to be set, but will be played at Great Horton Conservative Club.
