BRADFORD CITY AA

Many rivers are still low but anglers report that fishing has been good, with both grayling and out-of-season trout featuring in catches at our fisheries on the rivers Aire and Ure.

On the Aire, Peter Hague had an 18lb pike and – fishing at Buckden on the River Wharfe on the last day of the season – Andy Lee caught and returned a fine trout of about 3lb on a size 16 olive klinkhamer.

Our stillwater fisheries have also seen some good nets in the past week. At Shipton, Mac Regan reported a common carp of 17lb 9oz, while it took Simon Chapman 45 minutes to land another common of 19lb 2oz, using red maggot and only a light feeder rod to a 3lb hook-link. Nathan Tyson, 13, was also pleased with his selection of bream and a single rudd.

The club’s annual meeting was held on September 30 and agreed a number of changes to rules for 2016. Four new members were elected onto the general committee. The Frank Whiteley Cup – for outstanding service to BCAA over the past year – was awarded to Terry Duncalf for his ongoing leadership and efforts to improve the Shipton Lake fishery.

Club plans for 2016 include further stocking of fish at our Shipton, Staveley and Oakworth lakes, work parties on our River Swale fisheries, and possible conservation and improvement work with organisations such as the Wild Trout Trust on the Aire.

We are still welcoming new members for the rest of 2015, and are offering part-year membership at only £33. This includes the joining fee of £15. Our next match is the Cinderella Trophy at Lower Dunsforth on Saturday, October 24. To book on, or for more information, contact Rod Brooksbank on 07875-275749.

The Raskelf Winter Series is fast becoming a sell-out, with only a couple of pegs remaining. With the colder weather fast approaching, it's now a perfect time to buy a Bradford No 1 hoodie from the club's online shop (www.bradfordno1.com). Knotford is continuing to produce good catches of carp, with junior member Tommy Lowrie catching a personal best of 20lb 2oz in the last week. A new lock system will be in place at Knotford in the new year, with keys replacing the current code to make it easier for members to get access. More details will follow in the coming weeks.
