DESPITE having three of their main riders missing for their Northern League cycle speedway fixture at Cookson Park, Heckmondwike only went down 77-71.

After weeks away from racing, the visitors only trailed by one point at half-time.

In the junior match, Heckmondwike's Will Naylor rode exeptionally well to gain a maximum of 16 points but Sheffield, fielding six riders to the visitors' four, won 57-51.

Heckmondwike travel to Bury on Sunday for their next Northern League encounter.

Meanwhile, floodlit training continues on Wednesdays (7.30pm-9pm) at Firth Park Heckmondwike, (WF16 0HH).
