DARREN Tetley will visit a specialist on Monday to check over his injured wrist.

The unbeaten Holme Wood welterweight experienced shooting pains through his left hand during his latest victory.

His convincing points win over Tottenham's hard-hitting Mark McKray stretched his perfect run to eight fights and was worth the pain.

Tetley was forced to box off the back foot to avoid further aggravating the problem – which did him a favour in staying out of the way of McKray's power.

Tetley said: "I've never been hit so hard. Every shot he threw was solid.

"But having to go off the back foot probably made it easier for me, rather than trying to go toe-to-toe and taking the chance of having my head knocked off!

"It worked out well because I showed I can box both ways and my trainer was very pleased with the performance.

"But I need to get the wrist looked at. It's only a little niggly injury but needs sorting – I only tapped it again yesterday and felt this pain shooting up my arm."

All being well, Tetley plans one more outing before Christmas to round off a year that has seen the 22-year-old make decent strides.

He has won four fights in 2015, including the last two over six rounds. But that is not tempted him to rush into a title shot.

Tetley said: "I would love to go down the old-school route of fighting for a Central Area title or an English one. But it's pointless trying to run before I can walk.

"I'm only 22 and have plenty of time on my side. Hopefully next year will be a big one for me or, if not, the year after.

"I've only done two six-rounders, so I'll probably look to do a couple more before I move up to eight and then ten.

"I like to think I'm making a little bit of noise in the division but I've got my head screwed on. I know I'm not ready for title fights yet.

"If the chance came around now, I'd probably say no. I want to get my hands on a belt but there is no rush to do it."
