GLASSHOUGHTON Welfare beat Pudsey by just three chalks in the final of the Hutchinson Cup, played at Outwood last Sunday.

Pudsey got off to the better start, thanks to a great 21-3 from David Hilliam, and led by 30 chalks after four jacks, only for Glasshoughton to reduce the deficit to 23 after eight.

It was at this stage that the rain came down, which turned the game in favour of Glashoughton, with Maureen Chambers’ 21-5 proving the difference as Pudsey came up short yet again.

Meanwhile, Overthorpe Sports won the Derrick Radley Trophy 219-206 over Lower Hopton.

THE SPEN Floodlit League gets underway on Monday, September 7 and runs for nine weeks.

SHIPLEY Club are now looking for teams for their Short Mat Indoor Bowls League, which is due to start on Monday, November 16 and finish in March.

Matches will be played on Mondays, Tuesday or Wednesdays, and games will be every couple of weeks.
