WIBSEY'S Jordan Brown won the Hospital Handicap, beating Alan Pennington (Ladyhill) 21-18 in the final.

Brown came through a field of 50 to take the title, and with it an invitation to the end-of-season Victor Ludorum (Champion of Champions).

He has shown glimpses of his potential over recent years, but on Sunday he showed just how far he can go, and maybe a move to a top club may improve his game.

Once again this competition, sponsored by Damart, has given the chance for the lesser bowlers to progress, and proves to be Bradford’s most popular event.

Hove Edge triumphed in the Howarth Cup, defeating Asa Briggs A 165-150 in the final at Elland Cricket Athletic & Bowling Club.

Having already disposed of holders Shipley Club in the quarter-finals, Hove Edge went into finals day thinking they might have to overcome both Asa Briggs teams to take the title.

First up was a semi-final with Asa Briggs B, which they edged 182-179 thanks to a great 21-9 from Matthew Holden.

The final was a little more comfortable against Asa Briggs A, with Judy Cockroft 21-8 and Louise Whiteley 21-14 the standout performances. Hopefully Hove Edge’s success will encourage other teams to enter this and other Bradford team competitions.

Tyersal were victorious in the Supplementary Cup, beating West Bradford in the final, which was also staged at Elland CA& BC.

Amazingly, it’s the first time Tyersal have won the event, which started in 1928.

Pam Lindley’s 21-9 helped them to a 184-161 semi-final win over Wyke, despite a great 21-3 from Robert Benn, to set up a final against West Bradford, who had overcome Harold Park 170-168 in the other last-four tie.

Tyersal started the final with a ten-point handicap advantage and, despite carding only three winners, took the match 176-163, thanks to impressive wins from Wendy Shimbles 21-3, Philip Wilsdon 21-7 and Terry Wilsdon 21-8.
