MELTHAM'S Dill Harvey defeated four county bowlers on the way to becoming the new Yorkshire Crown Green Bowling Association's ladies' handicap champion.

She defeated county bowler Dawn Bray (Ossett Flying Horse) 21-7 in the final at Hove Edge Bowling Club, having earlier beaten county aces Lynda Drury (New Mill) to 16, Chloe Hirst (Halifax) to nine and Alexis Lunn-Gadd (Ossett Flying Horse) to 19 before defeating team-mate Marie Nicholson (Meltham) to eight in the semi-final.

Dill, bowling from a handicap of four and who had won the Huddersfield Ladies' Merit a couple of weeks earlier, played well throughout and adapted to the weather conditions, which went from sunshine to cold rain, and to bowling to a wide range of marks.
