Result of Sunday’s Craven Summer League match, fished in torrential rain on the church-pool length at East Marton: 1 Richard Thornton 640g (1:5:12), included a big perch of about 450g (1:0:0), 2= Andrew Thomas, Ian Parker, Bill Davenport 70g (0:2:8), 5 Brett Young 60g (0:2:0), 6= Malcolm Mawson, Alan Wade 40g (0:1:8). Championship standings with two matches left: 1 R Thornton 76pts; 2 S Chenior 67, 3 A Thomas 63, 4 G Waterfall 56, 5 E Ramsbotham 55, 6 M Bradley 53. The penultimate match will be fished this Sunday on the Silentnight stretch of the canal at Barnoldswick, draw 7am. Result of poorly-attended Whinnygill Reservoir evening match on Tuesday, July 14 (weights were mainly perch and roach): 1 Graeme Waterfall 700g (1:8:8), 2 Simon Chenior 500g (1:1:8). 3 Malcolm Mawson 380g (0:13:4). The next match will be fished on Tuesday, draw 6.30pm, with probably at least two hours of fishing depending on the weather.

LISTERHILLS AA

Result of last fixture of the Saturday Canal series, where competitors were hampered by gusting winds: 1 E Harrison 2lb½oz, 2 W Barker 14oz. Sport on the canal has improved, particularly in the Armley area. E Harrison, representing the club in the Leeds Amalgamation delegates match at Kippax Park, was well placed with a good catch of carp. Pilley's is fishing well and this weekend hosts the John Funnell Memorial event. The committee match will be held on the Lower Aire. Several anglers are being caught fishing without a membership book or a day ticket on the canal. Result of the match run by Leeds Angling Centre at Armley: 1 R Thorpe 4lb 2oz, 2 M Paton 3lb 6oz, 3 R Moverley 3lb 2oz. Section winners: W Mason 2lb 11oz, D Lothian 2lb 8oz. The winner also drew the golden peg.

BRADFORD No 1 AA

David Armitage (Punky's 8) won the second round of the Calder League with an impressive net of bream, weighing 34lb 2oz. Other placings: 2 Steve Newns (Punky’s 8) 33lb 2oz (chub), 3 Pete Baron 23lb 5oz. Team: 1= Bradford No 1, Punky’s 8 39pts, 3 Mirfield 35. There will be a junior match on Saturday at Raskelf, with free entry for junior members. Places are available from Simon on 01274-571175. Howsham Wood will be closed on Sunday for a committee match (draw 10am), while Gatenby will be closed on Saturday for an RSPS match. The Aire and Calder Canal at Rawcliffe Bridge is fishing very well, with nets of bream and roach in excess of 30lb being caught regularly.

WASHBURN VALLEY FISHERY

Catch details for week ending July 19 – Day ticket: Fewston 19, Swinsty 5; total fish caught: Fewston 53, Swinsty 120lb plus; average per rod: Fewston 2.8, Swinsty 24lb. The heaviest fish caught was a 4lb 6oz rainbow trout by Tim Pryke using dry 'sedge'. Fewston: High pressure and fluctuating water levels have kept trout sitting deep. Most fish taken on nymph, with the bigger fish rising well out to take dry fly. Swinsty: Roach and skimmer brown have made good nets of fish mixed with plenty of perch. Thruscross: Ideal conditions as water levels drop, wild brown trout feeding well on midge and buzzer from the surface.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC

We have two trips up and coming this next two weeks – ten days in Westport, Ireland, and a week in Culdaff, also in Ireland. We should have some good reports coming through. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 18 (8pm) in the New Inn, East Bierley.
