OULTON Park is not one of Bradford motor cyclist David Brook's favourite circuits.

"It's very technical," admitted the Clayton Heights ace – so he was therefore chuffed to finish fourth and fifth, having qualified fifth in what were quality Thundersport GB GP1 and Superstock 1000 series fields.

Brook confessed: "What a weekend. This was the hardest I've ridden all year.

"The relief of pulling out a fourth and a fifth felt good but a false neutral and a small slide from the rear on Saturday in race two cost me a podium. However, I cannot beat myself up about it as I really enjoyed the racing.

"I qualified in fifth, which surprised me as I haven't done particularly well at Oulton Park in the past.

"It's a great circuit but very technical and my time of 1min 41.7sec was already 1.8sec underneath my personal best, so I was content with the third row."

Brook added: "Race one was really good. I made a good start but lost out on a couple of positions over race distance as I struggled on two parts of the track in particular and that was ruthlessly exploited by the competition.

"I knew, however, that I could improve for race two as I came home in fifth.

"Race two was probably one of the most enjoyable of my career. Every lap, I learnt something new and settled into a good rhythm.

"I did let myself down on two occasions, once with a false neutral which gave away my second place to Adam Shelton, and a big slide approaching the start-finish straight which knocked me back to fourth. But despite being slightly annoyed, the race was awesome.

"Some have suggested it was one of the best races they'd seen in the class this year, so I'm proud to have played my part.

"All in all it was a positive meeting. I had to push really hard and relished the challenge, so I can't wait to get back on the bike for Team Arkoni at Rockingham in late July."
