BRADFORD CITY AA

Warm weather and lack of promised heavy rain means that the rivers have remained low, choked with weed and challenging to fish. The river coarse-fishing season opened on Tuesday, and anglers were out just after midnight. On the Swale, barbel and chub have only just spawned and anglers should avoid wading to let newly-laid eggs hatch into the free-swimming fry, which will maintain fish populations. The working party at Shipton Lake last weekend was poorly supported by members, but made good progress to cut lilies, strim vegetation and clear overhanging trees. Another working party will take place next month. The club are still accepting new members, who can join through agents or from the link on the club website at www.bradfordcityaa.co.uk. More information and club details are available from membership secretary Jim Munden on 07940-814431 (note Jim’s change of e-mail address to j.munden@outlook.com). The club's next match is tomorrow at Lower Dunsforth. For bookings and information, contact Rod Brooksbank on 07875-275749.

Result of Leeds Angling Centre's open match at Armley: 1 R Moveley 1lb 15½oz, 2 R Thorne 1lb 4½oz, 3 B Mason 11oz. Once again, catches were reduced because of spawning. Catches of up to four small pike have been taken in the Armley area and there are reports of anglers fishing for carp using floating baits in the centre of lily pads at Pilley's. There is a danger of breakages, leaving fish tethered which would eventually be lost. This practice must cease.
