MARK Regan of Brighouse Sports won the Bradford Merit after defeating Pudsey opponent Gary Wike 21-9 in the final.

It was Regan's first Bradford League title but, on the form he produced on Sunday, it could be the first of many.

He blitzed his way through the field, beating Stuart King (Asa Briggs) in the quarter-finals and Nigel Wormald (Wibsey) 21-7 in the semis before seeing off the previously impressive Wike.

Regan will now be invited to play in the end-of-season Victor Ludorum Invitational Merit (champion of champions) at Clayton on Saturday, October 3.

Quarter-finals: Nigel Wormald (Wibsey) 21, Vince Cleary (Ladyhill) 20; Mark Regan (Brighouse Sports) 21, Stuart King (Asa Briggs) 11, Philip Walker (Harold Park) 21, Peter Ellis (Spen Victoria) 13, Gary Wike (Pudsey) 21, Glen McCafferty (Asa Briggs) 16. Semi-finals: Wormald 7, Regan 21; Walker 18, Wike 21. Final: Regan 21, Wike 9.

* Chris Brown (Lower Hopton) triumphed in the Shipley Classic, sponsored by H H Birch & Son Ltd, after edging out James Wilcox (Crossgates) 21-20.

However, Brown lived up to his nickname of 'Lucky' in both the semi-finals and final as he won games he maybe shouldn't have.

After an opening 21-12 victory against team-mate Ian Booth, he came up against Tom Hanson in the last four, while Wilcox had been impressive in making it through to the decider – including a victory over Kevin Burns (Ossett Flying Horse)

Quarter-finals: James Wilcox (Crossgates) 21, Kevin Burns (Ossett Flying Horse) 14; John Spinks (Pudsey) 21, Tony Riley (Brighouse Sports) 11; Ian Booth (Lower Hopton) 12, Chris Brown (Lower Hopton) 21; Tom Hanson (Pudsey) 21, Joel Abdy (Lower Hopton) 10. Semi-finals: Wilcox 21, Spinks 16; Brown 21, Hanson 19. Final: Wilcox 20, Brown 21.

Wyke A remain top of the Godwin division after a 21-9 home win against Brighouse Sports B, with Mike Lambert's 21-8 the best of seven host victories.

Guiseley A stunned Eccleshill B with a 29-1 demolition and a full house of winners as they climbed into second place thanks to Andy Durkin 21-7, Joe Stockdale 21-8, Graham Oliver 21-8 and Dave Rankin 21-9.

Elland CA&BC remain third, despite losing 18-12 at home to an inspired Asa Briggs A, with Stuart King's 21-10 leading the latter side to a stunning victory.

Littlemoor B have struggled this season but everything clicked on Saturday as they thumped local rivals Pudsey B 28-2, thanks to wins by Nicky Dewhirst 21-7, Philip Richards 21-8 and William Swales 21-9.

Greengates A beat Rufford A 19-11 to move out of the bottom two but are away in three of their next four games.
