Latest from the local angling scene.

BRADFORD NO1 AA Maunby, Gatenby and Catton will be closed on Saturday for the River Swale Preservation Society’s Team Masters, for which team members should be at Woodlands for the draw at 8.30am. This Sunday sees the third round of the Raskelf Winter Series, which draws at the Golden Lion at 9am. Meanwhile, Widdington Hall will also be closed this weekend for outside bookings. Tickets are still available for the open match on the River Nidd at Cowthorpe on March 8 from Simon on 01274-571175. Well done to Reece Lisle, who last weekend caught a carp (pictured) weighing 25lb 8oz from Kirklees Lagoon. Fish are beginning to show on most of the club’s waters, with the River Calder at Brighouse also fishing well for grayling and chub. Members are reminded to ensure that all litter is taken home, including any discarded line. Leave litter, leave the club.

SKIPTON AA For the second weekend running, the weather has been kind to the angler and several were seen in action on the local reaches of the River Aire, where sport with the grayling was certainly acceptable. The Bradford City length above Inghey Bridge is normally fly only during the brown-trout season but worm is allowed for grayling in the winter months from November 1. Last weekend, anglers were using both the worm and the fly and accounted for one or two decent bags of fish up to just above the 1lb mark, together with several out-of-season brown trout to a similar size. Lower down the river on the Skipton AA water, only the odd angler was to be seen but sport was similar to that enjoyed above Inghey Bridge.

HEWENDEN AC There is a pike match on Sunday, £10 all in, draw 9am in the car park. As the far bank is still closed for any public or members’ access, we can only fish from the near bank so it will be members only. We apologise for the inconvenience but the matter is beyond the club’s control.

BINGLEY AC The Myrtle Park length of the River Aire will be closed to pleasure anglers on Sunday due to a late match booking. The match draw will be held at 9am in the Ferrands Arms car park, please call Tony on 07971-428678 to book a peg.

LISTERHILLS AA Members must respect the fishery owner’s request and not bring cans on to the site when fishing at Pilley’s. It is hoped that this can be resolved in the near future. The next match on the fishery is on Sunday, March 1.

The canal is closed for an outside match booking on Sunday. Result of pike match last Sunday: 1 T Gilbert 11lb 10oz, 2 A McWilliams 11lb 0oz, 3 Derek 8lb 3oz, 4 D Senior 7lb 8oz.
