SOPHIA Basaraba looked a real prospect for the future when she took the girls' nine years' 50 metres backstroke crown in 40.08sec at the Yorkshire Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

The City of Bradford member went on to show her versatility and continued her run of good form when she placed fourth in the 50m freestyle and sixth in the 50m breaststroke in times of 35.86sec and 47.31sec respectively.

Fourth place also went to Ben Adeniji in the boys' 12 years' 50m backstroke.

North East Region medallist Dalton Clapham picked up seventh place in the boys' 11 years' 50m breaststroke, ninth in the 50m freestyle and tenth in the 50m backstroke and butterfly.

Eleven-year-old Archie Minto collected a seventh place in the 50m butterfly and 13-year-old John-Luke Hutchinson finished tenth place in his age-group 50m breaststroke.

All of the swimmers train with Bradford Council's Leisure Services' aquatic development programme under the guidance of head coach Andy Pearce and development coach Sarah Fisher.
