UPCOMING Holme Wood professional Darren Tetley reckons back-to-back knock-out wins can "catapult" him to the next level in 2015.

Welterweight Tetley will head into the new year with a perfect four-fight record – the last two with stoppages inside the distance.

And he went one better than former world champion Junior Witter when stopping Arvydas Trizno of Lithuania in his last outing.

Tetley finished off his experienced opponent inside three rounds – one quicker than Witter had managed six months earlier.

Trizno was taking part in his 58th bout and had won the previous two inside the opening three minutes, so it was a scalp for Tetley to be proud of.

He said: "You could tell he'd come here to win and looked very confident. It was a step up for me and I was really pleased to stop him.

"It's nice to do it quicker than Junior Witter but it was the performance that meant more to me than just winning. I planted my feet and so the power was able to come through.

"My trainer is teaching me to fight in that style. You don't have to be 100mph every round like in the amateurs.

"The pros I'm fighting tend to start slow and your instant reaction is to go full steam ahead – but that's what they want you to do. I'm learning to take my time."

Tetley, who had previously stopped journeyman Jason Nesbitt, caused the damage with a heavy body shot. A follow-up forced Trizno to take a knee and the referee stepped in 30 seconds later.

"The reaction has been really positive and hopefully it will catapult me to bigger things," said 21-year-old Tetley, who is slated to fight in Doncaster again on February 28.

"I did wonder when the power was going to come after my first two fights. But I've stopped my last two opponents and they've both been tough people.

"I'm getting older and thinking more. I'm trying to use my brain instead of throwing punches just for the sake of it."
