HEMEL Storm and Worthing Thunder rained on Bradford Dragons' parade at the weekend.

Not only did the Dragons lose their National League Division One match 74-71 against Hemel Storm but they were also beaten 92-83 in overtime by Worthing Thunder in a National Cup quarter-final.

Bradford have never beaten Hemel and led 18-17 after the first quarter and 39-37 at half-time.

There was still nothing in it at three-quarter time, with Hemel leading 59-58, and they eventually edged a match in which the lead changed hands 13 times and was tied on six occasions.

Top-scorer for the Dragons was Spaniard Miguel Lorenzo with 17, Rihards Sulcs backing him up with 11, and they were also able to give a debut off the bench to American point guard Jeremee Davies, who had only landed in England on Friday morning.

He scored two points against Hemel but totalled 13 against Worthing, Latvian Sulcs scoring 24 and notching ten rebounds and former England international Jason Swaine bagging 12 points.

The scoring was as tight as the day before, with the Dragons being 19-17 ahead after the first quarter and 36-35 up at half-time.

Worthing were 57-56 in front at three-quarter time and it was 72-72 at the end of the fourth quarter, despite Bradford leading by two points with 81 seconds left, when they took a time-out, and then had three attempts to win it.

Davies said after his second game: “I am really excited about finally getting to meet my team-mates and having the opportunity to get those first two games together.

"It’s imperative that we get to know each other and each other’s styles of play on the court. Obviously, I’m disappointed about the two defeats, but, as I said, those games were great opportunities for us to adapt to the varying styles of play and I am optimistic about the future.

"We’ll be back in the gym this week, working extremely hard to get ready to tackle our next task."

That is another double header – at Westminster Warriors on Saturday evening and Essex Leopards on Sunday.

Elsewhere, the Dragons' under-14s beat Leeds Force Seconds 126-8.
