EMBASSY-Police B will hope victory against Hermits B will be a turning point as they look forward to Bradford Table Tennis League fixtures against opponents in the bottom half of the table.

Teams from Embassy and Police joined forces this season, with Embassy A from last term becoming Embassy-Police B.

They have not enjoyed the best of starts, with four defeats from five matches, but the fixture list has not been kind as they have played nearly all the top teams.

But an 8-2 win over Hermits B will have given them heart for the remainder of the campaign.

Tony Boyd led Embassy-Police to victory with three singles, while Ian Marshall and Paul Stephenson supplied two each.

But spare a thought for the Hermits line-up, who replied with one win each from Ian Warner and Andy Braithwaite but managed only one victory from six of the sets that went the distance.

Meanwhile, Unity E missed a great opportunity to inflict a first defeat of the season on leaders Pudsey B in Division Three.

Unity led 5-2 as Peter Jackson had marathon victories over Steve Smith and Maurice Wrigley, Hughie Chambers beat Lynne Thompson and Wrigley in straight games and Michael Walker also got the better of Thompson.

Pudsey began their fightback with Smith beating Walker but Unity must still have thought the victory was theirs in the final singles when the unbeaten Jackson faced Thompson.

But the former Unity girl stunned her opponent with a 3-1 win and Pudsey also took the doubles to escape with a 5-5 draw.
