HEAD coach Matt McTurk and Hardija Vidnere were both double winners at Heaton Tennis Club's Closed Championship.

McTurk won the men's singles crown for the fourth time with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Richard Bohanna, while sisters Hardija and Kristela Vidnere combined to take the women's doubles title.

The siblings were then facing each other in the women's singles final, with 13-year-old Hardija emerging victorious 7-6, 6-2 after a high-quality contest, while mcTrk combined with Phil Cook to win the men's doubles title.

Bohanna, beaten in the men's singles and men's doubles deciders, finally got his hands on a trophy when he won the mixed doubles with women's doubles finalist Carrie Wagstaff, while Paul Marsden and Ray Quarterman won a thrilling veterans' men's doubles and Julie Crowe and Sue Hamilton lifted the veterans' women's doubles silverware.

McTurk said: "It's been a great day and great tournament, and it has probably been the best organised in my time here.

"It's always nice to win and it's a very proud feeling seeing your name on the honours board in the clubhouse, but I cannot take all the credit.

"I am very lucky to have such a solid partner in Phil, and I look forward to playing with him again next year."
