GRAEME Wilson has won the 2014 Spen Masters, sponsored by P&I Hopkins Butchers, after defeating Lower Hopton team-mate Graham Hickey 21-7 in the final.

A good-sized crowd witnessed bowling at its best as 16 of the country's top crown green exponents assembled at Spen Victoria CB&AC, all chasing a first prize of £1,100.

Wilson took the title for the second time, after his first success in 2003, with wins over Robbie Fitzpatrick (Wirral) 21-13, Hugh Hornby (Preston) 21-17 and two-time champion Andy Buckley (Chadderton) 21-10 before meeting Hickey.

In the final, Wilson upped his game and his superb leading on a different-paced mark was a major factor in the result as he totally outplayed Hickey, who had been terrific all evening prior to this.

Wilson was quick out of the blocks, building an early 12-2 lead which he soon extended to 17-4. Hickey was unable to make inroads and it was Wilson who triumphed again.
