YORKSHIRE carded an impressive 24-7 win over North Derbyshire in the British Parks County Championship – only to hear that Greater Manchester had defeated Cheshire 29-2 to progress to the final.

The white rose men tried their best with convincing victories both home and away but it proved in vain.

Yorkshire managed nine winners in the home match at Spen Victoria, with Nigel Bloomer (Brighouse Sports) being the pick after a great 21-10 on his Parks debut.

In the away match at Fairfield BC, Yorkshire won 10-4 helped by eight winners, with Matthew Jacques (Shipley Club) 21-10 and Phil Hill (Whitkirk) 21-11 both starring on debut.

Despite numerous regulars choosing to play in the Yorkshire Crown Green Inter-District, Yorkshire still put out a strong team, with the new boys shining.

It shows what depth we have in the area – but surely the Yorkshire Parks and Yorkshire Crown Green officials should make sure these events do not clash in the future.

* BRADFORD went out in the group stages of the Yorkshire Crown Green Inter-District, which was held in the Aire-Wharfe District.

They were in a group with Castleford and the West Riding, with all of those games being at Guiseley.

After seeing the West Riding beat Castleford 187-186 in the first game, Bradford took on Castleford but went down 184-182, despite great 21-12 wins from Asa duo Andy Southwell and Glen McCafferty.

All three teams had a chance of progressing as Bradford took on West Riding in the third game.

Bradford knew that even a defeat, as long as they scored 189 points, would see them home but they fell short, being beaten 195-174 despite a great 21-12 win by Bob Wilkinson (Wyke).

West Riding progressed from Bradford's group but lost to Skipton in the semi-finals at Rawdon, who went on to face defending champions Huddersfield in the final at Rufford.
